December is already upon us and along the Catalonian capital city streets you can sense the Christmas spirit. The city has lit up for Christmas and many are waiting impatiently to spend these special few days with their loved ones.
Almost 400 streets illuminate Barcelona, around the hotel Well and Come you can see the street lights thanks to the traders of the area. Whoever visits the city during these dates will find themselves seeing Christmas decorations, lit up trees, stalls, Christmas markets and markets where you can buy gifts or eat the typical churros with chocolate.
At our Boutique Hotel in Barcelona we want all of our clients to feel as though they are at home, that they feel the festive spirit and magic, kilometres away from home. For those we propose the typical fairs and markets that offer products and an ample offer of activities to enjoy with their family or with friends.
Christmas in the museums of Barcelona
If you are an art lover, take note because you are going to love what you are about to read. In Barcelona you will find yourself with an endless list of museums, however some, as you would expect, are more special than others. Due to this special time of year some of these centres have exhibitions based around Christmas.
In the Museu de Cultures del Món you can see from the 14th of December the exhibition “El Nadal i en Campany”, where displayed is large scale Christmas themed pieces that represent the Catalan culture. Revolving around different aspects of tradition, Christmas food, the fun and laughter, the famous log (Catalan tradition). If you want to find out more about Barcelona’s Christmas history, this could be the perfect time to, especially when entry is free.
Also in the El Born Centre de Cultura i Memòria you will find a lighting installation which has been named ‘Christmas balls return to the Born’.
Another event which unites more than 10 000 visitors is the Design Market which is held in the Disseny Hub Barcelona starting from the 22nd of December. Here they organise activities and tasks related to design and creation.
Sleep at Well and Come and visit the Christmas fairs and markets
A lot of people are very passionate about Christmas, and for them it’s not Christmas without the markets. Going along the traditional markets where you can stroll and enjoy the attractive atmosphere that they offer.
Near to your Boutique Hotel Well and Come you will find the traditional Christmas market of Sagrada Familia. A small charming market that has a hundred stalls with small nativity scenes, trees, Christmas plants and typical foods from the area. During the day is the perfect time to visit the market and have breakfast or eat some of the typical Christmas products, such as sweet potatoes, chestnuts, nougats and churros.
If you are going to stay at the Hotel Well and Come before the 23rd of December, you can visit it from 10am to 10pm.
Also we want to suggest another visit to the grand Feria de Navidad or the Feria de Santa Lucía. It is the main Christmas Market in Barcelona which is held in the cathedral square, in the Gothic district of the city. It is the oldest fair where thousands of Barcelonans and tourists visit. It began as a fair that was organised for Santa Lucía, on the 13th Of December, but now has become the Christmas market that lasts three weeks.
Just like the traditional Christmas market of Sagrada Familia, the Feria de Santa Lucía ends on the 23rd of December. Here you will find more than 300 stops with objects and items related to Christmas. Also, there is a large exhibition of artisanal items, ideal for those little Christmas gifts.
